- Chevrolet is gearing up to launch the refreshed 2027 Chevy Trax, and we just spotted it testing with zero camouflage.
- The Trax wears a new front end with the upper and lower grille and lighting elements now separated by bodywork instead of chrome trim.
- The taillights are more modern and thinner, and they are now linked by a piece of black trim.
While the dowdy, lethargic first-generation Chevy Trax failed to make much of a lasting impression, the second-generation Trax burst onto the scene and instantly became a success, notching more than 200,000 sales in each of the past two years. The Trax even managed to earn a spot on our 10Best award list for three years in a row. Now Chevy appears to be readying a refreshed version, and our spy photographer has caught the 2027 Trax fully undisguised.
The Trax’s updated design isn’t wildly different, but the changes are still notable enough to make the refreshed model look significantly more modern. The chrome bar that separated the upper and lower grille elements has been scrapped, with the daytime running lights and thin grille trim now sitting above a slim piece of bodywork. The daytime running lights themselves also look a bit sleeker. The main headlight units are now arranged horizontally, connected to a wider hexagonal grille and vertical trim pieces.
At the rear, the Trax features completely new taillights, which are narrower and wider than before, with a section that dips down at the outer edge and a section that wraps around the side of the car. The taillights look more similar to the units on the likes of the Equinox and Traverse, and they are now linked by a piece of black trim. The bumper has also been tweaked with a boxier shape and horizontal reflectors.
While our spy photographers weren’t able to capture the interior on this prototype, previous images of more camouflaged units suggest some changes to the layout of the screens. We hope that Chevy still keeps the ample physical buttons alongside the screens.
We don’t expect major changes under the hood, with the Trax likely to continue with a 137-hp turbocharged 1.2-liter inline-three engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Look for the refreshed Trax to officially debut within the next couple of months and go on sale by early 2027.
