- Stylishly cheeky inside and out, roomy cabin, cool circular infotainment screen.
- Uncompetitive driving range, electric motors don’t provide the expected EV kick in the pants.
- The Countryman Electric impresses with a premium interior and flashy tech, but it’s down on driving range compared to similarly priced EV competitors.

By Drew DorianOverview
Like its gas-powered counterpart, the 202 Mini Countryman Electric translates the brand’s spunky attitude into a practical, upright SUV-like shape. In fact, the Countryman is pretty big for something called Mini, but that results in a roomy interior and above-average cargo capacity.
A pair of electric motors combine here to produce 308 horsepower and provide all-wheel drive traction. Acceleration is swift but lacks the instant off-the-line punch that we find so satisfying in other EVs. Driving range is the most disappointing aspect, though, as the maximum estimate is just 216 miles per charge—way short by today's ever-expanding EV range estimates.
Expert Tip: If you want to spend less money and get more driving range, consider the Nissan Leaf. It’s not as stylish, nor is it as exciting to drive, but it starts at just over $30,000 and boasts a range estimate as high as 303 miles per charge.

What's New for 2027?
Mini has launched a more rugged-looking Untamed trim for 2027. The Countryman Electric Untamed sports a lifted suspension with an extra half inch of ground clearance and wears all-terrain tires, unique 19-inch wheels, and a gray interior scheme with knitted cloth seat upholstery.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
- EV Motors: 308-hp dual motor
- Drivetrain: all-wheel drive
While Mini sells single-motor models in other markets, all Countryman Electrics sold in the U.S. come with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup called All4. This powertrain features two electric motors that deliver a combined 308 horsepower.
Ride and handling are nicely balanced here, but no one will mistake the Electric for the gas-powered, performance-oriented John Cooper Works model (reviewed separately). When we drove the Countryman Electric, we appreciated its one-pedal driving ability but felt that its extra weight compared with the gas version prevented it from being as eager and responsive.
0–60-MPH Times
- C/D 60-mph Test: 4.8 seconds
In Comparison: In our testing, the Countryman SE All4 got to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. That's a couple of ticks slower than the John Cooper Works gas-powered version.
Towing and Payload
- Max Towing: 2645 pounds
Mini's electric SUV can tow up to 2645 pounds, but doing so requires adding the trailer hitch, which is a $600 option.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
- C/D Range Test: 180 miles
- EPA EV Range: 214-216 miles
The Countryman SE All4 comes standard with a modestly sized 64.6-kWh battery and has an EPA-estimated range of up to 216 miles of driving per charge. That figure is for Countrymans with 18-inch wheels; upgrading to 19-inch wheels knocks the range down to 212 miles. Rival EV SUVs such as the Kia Niro EV and the Tesla Model Y both offer far more driving range per charge at a similar price point.
In our real-world 75-mph highway range test, the Countryman achieved 180 miles. We also tested its DC fast-charging speed and were able to get it from 10 percent to 90 percent charge in 39 minutes.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
- C/D 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test: 75 MPGe
- EPA City Ratings: 101 MPGe
- EPA Highway Ratings: 92-93 MPGe
According to the EPA, the Countryman Electric should deliver 101 MPGe city, up to 93 MPGe highway, and up to 98 MPGe combined. In our 75-mph highway fuel economy test, the Countryman achieved 75 MPGe. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. For more information about the Countryman Electric's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row: Like the gas-powered Countryman, the electric variant has an interior featuring sustainable materials and a simple design. A fabric-covered dash pad cleverly hides configurable ambient lighting elements that change color and shape depending on which drive mode is selected. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and come standard with heat.
Second Row: The rear seat is spacious enough for adult riders, although tall passengers may wish for more legroom.
Cargo Capacity: We were able to fit 8 carry-on suitcases with the rear seats up and 22 carry-ons with the rear seats folded. The Countryman Electric offers no front trunk for additional storage.
Infotainment and Connectivity
- Infotainment: 9.4-inch touchscreen
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Audio System: 6-speaker stereo (standard), 12-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo (optional)
Minis have long had a circular display in the middle of the dashboard, but in their latest generations, the circular display is entirely digital. This 9.4-inch panel serves as both a gauge display and infotainment, and it runs Mini's latest software interface, which provides many customizable features. Not only are there a bunch of pre-programmed backgrounds for the display, but the system will also allow you to upload photos of your own. So, if you want a photo of your cat to show up there, have at it.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and there's an option to download video games to the system to help you pass the time at a public charging station. Base models come with a six-speaker stereo, but a 12-speaker setup tuned by Harman/Kardon is available as an option.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
While all Countryman Electric models will come with driver-assistance features such as automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, if you want to access adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature, you'll need to spring for the Comfort Max package.
- Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control
- Optional Safety Features: adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature
For information about the Countryman Electric's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Mini provides one of the better warranty plans compared with its competitors, and the company also includes substantial complimentary scheduled maintenance.
- Limited Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
- Electrical Component Warranty: eight years or 100,000 miles
- Complimentary Maintenance: three years or 36,000 miles
