Just a couple of days after Toyota revealed the 2027 Tundra, with a new Trailhunter off-road model and a light refresh, the Japanese automaker is applying a similar batch of updates to its full-size SUV. For 2027, the Sequoia wears a revised front end, adds more technology, and now offers a Trailhunter variant of its own.
The changes aren't a surprise, given that the Sequoia rides on the same TNGA-F platform as the Tundra and shares the pickup's optional hybrid powertrain. The exterior changes for 2027 are subtle, with the grille somehow even larger than before and rectangular fog lights now integrated into the front bumper. The lower front bumper design also looks a bit chunkier.
The real highlight is the new Trailhunter package, which is based on the base SR5 trim. Upgraded suspension comes from the Australian specialists at Old Man Emu, the same company that provides the dampers on the Trailhunter versions of the Tacoma Hybrid and 4Runner Hybrid.
The Sequoia Trailhunter also rides on Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R-18 tires and gains front recovery hooks, extra underbody protection, and a locking rear differential. Toyota also throws in Multi-Terrain Select drive modes and Crawl Control, and the package is visually distinguished by bronze wheels and Trailhunter badges.
Inside, the SR5 model no longer has to make do with an 8.0-inch touchscreen; a 14.0-inch display is now standard across the range. The screen runs the latest iteration of Toyota's infotainment system, bringing new voice-assistant functions and a standard built-in dash camera system, which can capture 20-second clips. Toyota's Safety Sense 4.0 suite—which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, and automatic emergency braking—has been upgraded with improved hardware and detection capability.
Toyota also says the available LED light bar in the grille is now brighter than before, and Toyota now offers RIGID fog lights and front recovery hooks across the lineup. The Sequoia will continue to be offered in six trims: SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro and Capstone. We're still waiting on pricing and full specifications, which Toyota says will arrive before the 2027 Sequoia goes on sale this fall.
