How long will we have to wait for the next Ace Attorney game?

To celebrate the franchise's impending 25th anniversary on Oct. 12, Capcom announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy reached a new sales milestone. Sadly, we still don't know if another Ace Attorney game will be released, or if a new one is even in development right now.
How many copies have the Ace Attorney games sold?
On Bluesky, Capcom shared that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, a collection released for modern consoles in 2019, has sold over 5 million copies. According to data on Capcom's investor relations website, the franchise as a whole has sold over 15 million copies. New artwork by Kazuya Nuri and Takuro Fuse was also shared to mark the sales milestone and celebrate the franchise's quarter-century anniversary.
Although that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy sales milestone might seem quaint when compared to Capcom giants like Monster Hunter: World or Resident Evil 2's remake, it's still a respectable feat for a collection of courtroom visual novels that could be considered quite niche. Ace Attorney has a hardcore, passionate community, and Capcom has served them in recent years with re-releases of almost every game in the series.
Unfortunately, there's still no word on the next Ace Attorney game. In the West, the most recent "new" Ace Attorney release was 2021's The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, though that was technically a remake of two games released in Japan in the mid-2010s and set in a different time period than most of the games. When it comes to the truly mainline titles featuring Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, or Miles Edgeworth, the most recent game was 2016's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice on the 3DS.
It has been over a decade since Spirit of Justice was released in North America. Hopefully, Capcom's celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary will eventually go beyond some artwork and confirmation of a collection's sales milestone. We all want to know what's next for Ace Attorney.
