It’s my son’s 16th birthday today, so a very big happy bday to him though I think there is about a 0% chance that he will ever read one of my Wordle Guides. He’s a big gamer but not a NYT Puzzle gamer. Maybe someday. Let’s solve this Wordle shall we?

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

STALE wasn’t a great guess, and no better than the Wordle Bot’s SLATE. 202 words remained and I just had a feeling deep in my gut that the yellow A belonged in the first box. Turns out, it belonged in two boxes, but ADORN was the perfect second guess, leaving me with just one: AVIAN for the win!

Another win for your humble narrator! I get 1 point for guessing in three and one for beating the Bot. The Bot gets -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to me. Suddenly, this is a game again. New July totals are:

Erik: 4 points

Wordle Bot: 9 points

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Clack” is imitative (onomatopoeic) in origin, echoing the sharp, repeated sound of hard objects striking together. It appeared in Middle English and is related to similar sound-imitating words in other Germanic languages.
